Soma Frame News for 2012

So what is being updated for 2012 you ask?

- Double Cross: Our best selling frame gets a new color. The new Gun Metal Blue is not a traditionally classy as the Ivory, but the matte blue is neutral enough to go with a honey brown Brooks saddles as well as a variety of bar tape colors.
- Double Cross DC: The disc model with removable cantilever bosses will again be given old school downtube shifter bosses. The new color will be Slick Black.

Both the above models are available in small quantities now.

- Saga Touring frame: The new color is British Racing Green. We are also adding a 54cm size that fits 700c wheels for those who prefer them over 26" wheels (despite 26" wheels being easier to find while touring in other countries). The 26" wheel 54cm will still be available. This is an experiment. Available Jan. 2012

- Soma Juice: The popular Candy Apple Green will stay, but we will be adding Tange Stainless Steel Sliding Dropouts to our 29er. Available in February 2012.

-  (UPDATE) Trademan Cargo frame: They just arrived!

- San Marcos: There have been a lot of inquiries regarding when are we getting a full size run? Probably in early December. Apologies for how long it's taking.

The Groove hardtail and Van Ness model are being retired to trim down the line.
There are no changes planned for our other models for 2012.

I'm glad I got the double cross in Ivory! The gun metal blue is okay, but the ivory is just gorgeous. It really stands out as a beautiful frame.

No more Groove?!!!

I miss my old Groove. I'll have to pick one up before they're all gone.

Just wondering why the Double Cross DC also has canti bosses. Seems like the frame would be much cleaner without them and folks wanting cantis could just get the regular version. I'm on the fence for a DC myself and want to go disc, but am not too stoked to have the unused cable guides and boss studs just sitting there. Do you have some photos of finished builds in the new color? best to you guys, Dave D.

Yeah, I like that trad band around the logo on the new blue DC, but I'll admit that I'm kinda bummed that there's no ivory in my size to consider...

+1 for the DC Disc with downtube shifters

-1 for the "removable" canti bosses. Blech.

And the ES'? Any word on when they'll be restocked?

Love the Saga best bike I ever had. Unfortunately it was stolen out of my new house in Richmond, ca. I am one heartbroken guy. Anyone spots one in the east bay size 60/Brooks saddle black. Have to save for a new one. Please contact Evan 510-334-3093 esmith130@yahoo.com

Thanks

Evan

@Anonymous: 48, 58, and 60cm ES's will be back in 2 months. All other sizes in stock.

@Adam: Do you prefer permanent canti bosses or no bosses like the others. just wanna clarify.

@Evan: Right out of your house. That sucks. Does homeowner's ins. cover it?

@DaveD: I don't have any built bike photos yet. The frame would look a little cleaner w/o the extra guides, but we've had many appreciate having the options to have both. If you follow this link you'll see one guys DCDC built up in different configurations. http://www.flickr.com/photos/rollisays/6071855705/in/set-72157622648777586/

Unfortunately no. Used it to take the kids around in. The family is bummed. I'll have to save up maybe for a green one.

Thanks

Please keep the canti bosses. It's a great option.

Who REALLY NEEDS disc brakes anyway?

any plans for belt drive compatibility? would be a nice option especially if it doesn't negatively affect the frame/dropout...

Here's what a V2 without canti bosses/cable guides looks like:

I bought the frameset knowing I was going to have braze-on's taken off and getting the bike repainted. Cost me about $250 extra for labor and powdercoat (two layers)...$300 if you count the VO fenders also powdercoated.

If the bike hadn't come with the canti braze-on's, I probably wouldn't have bothered with the repaint, but with Soma offering so much bang for the buck, the cost of the frameset plus embellishments seemed like a small price to pay for getting exactly what I wanted.

BTW...not everyone needs disc brakes, but up here in the PacNW, they are definitely a benefit. Better braking and you save money in the long run by not rebuilding wheels every two years due to rim wear from winter riding.

have canti only frames for the canti people.

have disc only frames for those who want disc brakes.

make them both with split stays or split right horizontal drop out for belt drive option. there is no downside to having belt drive as an option since no one has to use the belt drive if they don't want to. and the horizontal dropouts will also make the frames fixed, ss, and internal hub gear able.

Canti, disc, can't we all live together!!

I just read on your Tradesman blog post that they're limited to only 20 frames initially?? Please tell me that they're not sold out already - I might have to run down to Box Dog to order one tomorrow.

Will there be a second run of them?

One of your online vendors is listing a Smoothie available in the color gray. Is this a new color for 2012, and if so, can you post a link to pics?

The Double Cross looks GREAT in the new gun-metal blue matte: The perfect backdrop for black, silver, chrome & titanium components.

The quality of the powder coat exceeds that of the ivory version IMO.

Geez. I wish you hadn't gone and made the SAGA in my favorite frame color of all time! I see one being built in my future.
