Super Everwear Tires

No, we didn't just make the tread thicker. (We already have arguably the thickest, longest lasting tread you can find on a 23c and 26c tires) We mined the brains at Panaracer (while they were sleeping) for the best technology to juice up our Everwears and after a week of sleepless nights we found the mojo.

Now I shall read from the prepared statement:
The Soma Super Everwear 700c tire boasts a superior casing that offers a significantly stiffened sidewall and 10x the puncture resistance of unbelted road tires and 4x the puncture resistance of Kevlar® belt technology.

We aren't going to give it a snazzy marketing name, but trust us, it does its job. Available now in some shops. In a few months, also look for Everwears to finally be available in 28c.

Schweet Schtuff

We don't know why pedal maker, MKS has produce a titanium bell, but the "Titan" does look svelte. It is practical, too. It borrows the clamp from Japanese bike light/computer manufacturer Cat Eye, so you can fit it on bars 22.2 up to 31.8mm. You can probably wrap on the top tube of your Moots. The "Titan" will only set you back $50.

March has also brought new Soma items.
- New colors for the Hellyer Track Pedal

- Soma Leather Toe Straps with Buckle Pads (you can also buy pads separately to upgrade the straps you own)

- New EvenFlow Tires: The big idea is that fixed gear riders don't need to use the thick skinned (but slightly pricey) Everwear up in front since skidding is done on the rear tire. By using the inexpensive Evenflow on the front wheel they can save some money, but still have a tire that matches the look of the rear tire. The graphics look the similar and the Evenflow comes in all the colors that the Everwear comes in. A couple of shops gave us this idea, so we shall see how it flies. If you are one of the riders, that don't give a crap about matching tires, well.... maybe you should. (Please note the Evenflow is not cheesy "cheap". It is still made in Japan by Panaracer.)

Cog Magazine Launched

Don't you love it when you get a fat envelope in the mail? It usually is some schwag from an alley cat we sponsored or a product sample. Yesterday we received the inaugaral copy of Cog Magazine (and a superbe looking t-shirt). Cog is unique in the cycling magazine world in that it is given away for free, but it isn't printed on cheesy newsprint. It is a large 9x12 format in glossy 4-color perfect for capturing the "groovy" beauty of city bike culture. This issue features coverage of the NACCC '07, the "Pisto Boom" in Tokyo and an in-depth feature on Jonny Cycles.

Places to pick up a copy: (as of 7-17-07)
NYC: King Kog, Track Star
Minneapolis MN: On-One Studio
Milwaukee, WI: Ben’s Cycles, Corey The Bike Fixer
Madison, WI: Yellow Jersey, Revolution Cycles
Chicago, IL: Yojimbo’s Garage, 4 Star CC
Toronto, Ontario: Courier Cavern
SF, CA: Freewheel, Pedal Revolution, Godspeed
LA, CA: Orange 20
Portland, OR: Stumptown Coffee
Berlin, Germany: Keirin Café

What's our interest in a new magazine launch besides our love of reading?
Kevin Sparrow, one of the editors, told us a few months back that they did a skid test on several tires and that our thick-treaded Soma Everwear came out on top. They said it did so well that in their single night of "accelerated real world testing,"the Everwear was the only tire that didn't give up the ghost before they got tired and wanted to go home.
